The pace of the school year did not let up as our nation transitioned into summertime adventures and, hopefully, fall planning for yet-another type of return to school. With the future on my mind, I’d like to share some professional news:
With a full heart and strong conviction for re-imagining the future of US education, I am transitioning from Portland Public Schools to take on a new role at the Center on Reinventing Public Education.
Last fall, I was called to work at the district to better understand the impact of the pandemic on my own community. During my short tenure at PPS I had the privilege to witness how data within school systems could create more just policies in an era of recovery and reinvention. I have a strong commitment to data justice and public transparency for US students and families. And, as a regular consumer of CRPE’s actionable rapid-response research within my own work, I am excited to now contribute to their expanding reach with state and federal education policy and law.
The post-COVID education policy infrastructure requires a synergy between research and practice. Looking forward, my work at CRPE will create these bridges by fostering collaborative, robust research and policy environments that allow us all to lead with timely, evidence-based policy solutions in the field. There is so much more to come for our nation’s education system. Until then, don’t hesitate to reach out at christinemtpitts@gmail.com.
